The North End Beach Development (NEBD) proposal was launched on 26 March 2014 at the Alexander Road High School. Promoters of the NEBD, pointing out that the North End beach used to be the main Port Elizabeth beach before the harbour was built, asked these questions: So where did the beach disappear to? Can we reverse this wasteland into prime real-estate?
The new North End Beach Development video goes into more depth on certain aspects.

The pupils from Alexander Road and their mentors say that the NEBD will lead to:
- A dramatic increase in land value
- Good for struggling business in the area
- Beach developments bring in more tourism money than any other
- 30 kilometres of coastal view cycle track from Cape Receife to Coega
- Recreational facilities will be brought to within walking distance of many citizens
- An increase in tourists leads to an increase in accommodation required
- The NEBD small boat harbour will create an alternative/additional yacht club facility
- Cost benefit analysis shows over 100 00 jobs will be created during the 6 year phase one construction phase
- As an example the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town is still developing 25 years on
- An estimate of 31 000 new permanent jobs in the commercial and tourism sector after phase one completion
- The increase in rates alone to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is R1.2 Billion per annum
