Mustangs Sports Academy Athletes Shine in SWD

Mustangs Athletics Club’s athletes shone brightly at the SWD Masters’ Meeting and Talent ID Meeting in Oudtshoorn during October 2011. 14 Athletes travelled to compete in the annual event and did not disappoint the coaches. Mustangs used the meeting as part of the athletes’ preparations for SA Champs next year in April. The highlight of the meeting saw club captain Lithemba Daile set a meeting record, which also happened to be his personal best jump in the Men’s Long Jump, a distance of 6.82m, much to the delight of the coaching team and his team mates. This jump came after a difficult 18 months which saw his training routine and performances hampered by a recurring hamstring injury!

There were other outstanding results, most notably Cayla Seddon’s double victories in the 90m Hurdles and in the 400m for girls U/15, Tristan Jonas had an impressive win in the boys U/15 400m, running a personal best time of 55.11, while Anuschka Assam rounded off the day’s performances with her double victories in the 200m and 400m for girls U/17. Luxolo Dlova and Zenande Ndzunge also had wonderful races in the 800m for men and 200m for U/17 girls respectively. Both have been struggling with shin injuries and showed alot of determination and heart to complete their races, Luxolo finishing in second position, while Zenande finished in third position in her race.

U/15 GIRLS:

  • Cayla Seddon – 1st 90m Hurdles and 400m
  • Samantha Sosora – 3rd 400m

U/15 BOYS:

  • Tristan Jonas – 2nd 200m and 1st 400m
  • Dayne Adams – 1st 100m

U/17 GIRLS:

  • Anuschka Assam – 1st 200m and 1st 400m
  • Zenande Ndzunge – 3rd 200m
  • Hlonela Vambe – 5th 100m

U/17 BOYS:

  • Dylan Adams – 3rd 200m
  • Azola Molelengoane – 3rd 100m

Women Open:

  • Martina Satanassi – 3rd Long Jump (4.32m – PB)

Men Open:

  • Lithemba Daile – 1st Long Jump (6.82m – PB)
  • Ayanda Foley – 2nd 100m
  • Luxolo Dlova – 2nd 800m
  • Ashwin Jacobs – 4th 100m

Mustangs Athletes look forward to competing in the Yellow Pages Summer Series Athletics Competitions which will be held in Port Elizabeth (9 December), Oudtshoorn (12 December) and Stellenbosch (15 December).
