The Gamtoos Valley, known as the Eastern Gateway to the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area, is where you escape to, to renew your body and mind. Guarded by the majestic Cockscomb mountain the area offers visitors a range and diversity of activities to enjoy…from mountain biking, hiking, 4×4-routes, cycling, kayaking, fishing, bird-watching, game drives, photo safaris and day trips into the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area.

If you are looking for things to do whilst enjoying the glorious natural surroundings, then, look no further!

At 3river Trails, with over 200km of trails and more than 65km of singletrack you’ll have plenty of riding to choose from. Be prepared for some of the best trails in South Africa! With a great network of MTB trails already existing at J-Bay Bike Park, Sunnyvale/Bluegums/Crossways Farms and Woodridge – the idea was born to link all these existing trails in the Thornhill area to provide riders of every level with a variety of unlimited world-class trails, not only for mountain-biking, but also for trail-running and hiking. 3river Trails is one of the largest trail networks in the country, with purpose-built mountain biking and running trails, offering unique and stunning views, and of course some of the best riding in the Eastern Cape.

The Patensie route takes you through the most beautiful parts of the Gamtoos Valley. The distance is 48.3km, with a Maximum ascent of 14, maximum descent of 16, total ascent of 187 and total descent of 174.

Our Hankey route takes you through another stunning area of the Gamtoos Valley. The distance is 42.51km, with a maximum ascent of 21, maximum descent of 30, total ascent of 462 and total descent of 459.

Tucked away among age-old hills between Humansdorp and Hankey you will find the picturesque and serene Zuurbron Bike Park. The bike park is the perfect escape with four different trails to explore. These trails guarantee a great workout.
