Motherwell Rugby Club Memorial Service

A memorial service for the six Motherwell Rugby Football Club rugby players who drowned at the Blue Water Bay beach on Sunday, 25 March, will be held at Raymond Mhlaba Community Hall in Motherwell, on Wednesday 4 April at 3pm.

Among the expected dignitaries to attend the service includes the Minister of Sport, Fikile Mbalula; Eastern Cape Premier, Noxolo Kiviet; Deputy Speaker in the House of Traditional Leaders, Prince Zolile Burns-Ncamashe and the SA Rugby officials, Oregan Hoskins and Pastor Khaya Mayedwa.

Other local luminaries from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality are the Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile and his deputy Nancy Sihlwayi.

The Eastern Province Rugby Union in conjunction with the Motherwell Rugby Football Club, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and the families of the deceased have come together in support of each other.

The EPRU has extended an invite to everyone to come and support the club and the deceased families during this sad time. You pare urged to wear the Eastern Province colours (red and black) or to don your rugby club attire when attending the meorial.

Masixole Myosana, 29, the first person found on that Sunday afternoon was laid to rest last week Saturday. The five bodies of the players who were missing were found during the course of the week.

Motherwell Rugby Club have set up the Motherwell Rugby Club Disaster Fund in an attempt to help the families of the deceased.

EPRU CEO Anele Pamba re-iterated “the funds will be used to support the families with the burial of their love ones”. Pamba said, this is a very sad time to the Union and the families of the deceased, “we need to give emotional and financial support to the families.”

Individuals and organisations who wish to donate towards the Motherwell Rugby Club Disaster Fund, Bank:  ABSA, the account number is 92-7222-0897, with branch code 632 005. This is the only authorised account for the disaster. People are advised to guard against any other bogus account.
