Where is Moses Katase now?

 

With all this talk about skills transfer we thought that this particular certificate from 1988 would be interesting. Back then Michael and I were involved in running the Straton & Co. Training Centre which offered skills training in numerous disciplines – Electrical Appliance Repair, Auto Electrical, Assistant to a Qualified Electrician and Entry Level Electronics.

 

This was run under the auspices of the Department of Manpower and initially the lecturers were mainly journeymen who passed their skills on to pupils that eventually became lecturers after excelling at the different courses.

 

The idea was to empower and skill the unemployed to find their own work whilst providing a safe haven, advice centre and workshop for them after completion of the course. Along with using our contacts in the industry to find formal employment for these trainees we also encouraged them to venture out and repair small items in their neighbourhoods using minimal diagnostic equipment and the free backup of our training centre should they need it.

 

Our training centre received national recognition as one that had the highest placement rates and was much in demand.
