Monti Mononym

Monti, an albeit biased Xhosa-modified mononym given to the one and only South African River Port, gets my two thumbs up vote for the renaming of the duplicated East London name; in lieu of the humdrum Gompo enforcement moniker.

Most Xhosa-speakers and the city’s citizenry know the alternate Monti name for East London anyway, as opposed to the seemingly fascist-inspired Gompo. The fact remains that despite the shortened name thereof being ostensibly derived from the Afrikaans’ Visriviersmond or Fish River Mouth / Estuary, thus giving peace time Africanists and selective Anti-colonialist a bone of contention to enforce the dull Gompo mononym; the Monti name should be the fore-runner in the much-needed renaming of the repetitive East London clone.

The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is my utmost favourite goverment demarcation, aside the fact that the one and only African Formula 1 champion yet, Jody David Scheckter, was born and bred in the said East London city. With the sea, rural and urban areas in close proximity is one of that municipality’s allure that makes me not miss a single year without going to the Buffalo City Metro area for a visit.

For the first time ever, I have to agree with the seemingly bigoted Kenny Kunene’s advocacy for the renaming of the current East London carbon copy. You folks still remember him? The guy who objectified women by eating Sushi from young girls’ naked bodies ? I agree with him on the premise and thereby cool confusion on how many East Londons did the British Empire need globally anyway?

Taking from what my October the 27th Birthmate, Kaizana ‘Oliver Reginald’ Tambo, said in one of his vocal insights: “The enemy is not necessarily doing everything wrong. You must take his right tactics and use them to your advantage.”
