The body of a 38-year-old man, reported as missing, was discovered by community members at Matlwangtlwang Township in Steynsrus.
He was last seen on Sunday, 26 December 2021. Family members opened a missing person’s case on 29 December 2021, after failing to contact or locate him. While the matter was reported, a body of a drowned person was reported. Upon arrival at the scene, the deceased who was retrieved by SAPS divers, matched the description of the missing person. A case of inquest was opened and this far no foul play is suspected. Post mortem results later revealed that the person had drowned in the river
Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane appeals to the community members to be careful near the streams and dams. “We are aware that we are experiencing high rainfall throughout the festive season. I am humbly pleading with the community to stay away from dams and rivers as they can become easily swept by the water which can lead to drownings”.
