TAVCOR Motor Group celebrated the true spirit of Christmas this year in their support of Miracle Kids and Khaya Cheshire.
A part of the Cheshire Homes projects, Miracle Kids & Khaya Cheshire provides basic care and love to children with disabilities. These children come from impoverished areas and have little resources or assistance in coping with their disability.
On the 5th December, TAVCOR proudly handed over the keys of a VW Caddy to Miracle Kids. This was a momentous occasion as children from Cleary Park could now be picked up and dropped off at the centre safely each day. The funds for the caddy were raised through Rotary PE West, after hearing the need for a vehicle from Hilary Bolton, Social Worker for the Cheshire Outreach Programmes. Chris Wessels, the Rotary PE West President, then approached rotary clubs in the USA in order to help raise funds for the new vehicle. The Marshall Miss USA, Pantano Arizona USA and Fairford NY USA rotaries responded and partnered with Rotary PE West in raising funds for the new vehicle.
TAVCOR not only took a loss on the vehicle in order to cover the shortfall, but the Employee Representative Council (ERC) of TAVCOR raised money internally through various projects in order to pay for the signwriting on the vehicle.
The TAVCOR ERC used further funds raised through their successful Christmas Market and Recycling Project to host a Christmas party for the 65 children from Miracle Kids & Khaya Cheshire in Cleary Park on the 9th December. Party packs as well as food hampers were handed out. TAVCOR employees contributed personally by giving a gift to each child. To top it off talented TAVCOR technician, Ronald Coates was taken out of the workshop for the occasion to supply the music.
It was a fun day for children and adults alike. Hilary Bolton and Alan Campbell, Chairman of the EP branch of Cheshire Homes, both thanked TAVCOR for their continued support and providing the children with such a positive end to their year.
The days’ festivities ended on a high note as Megan Stow, HR Manager at TAVCOR, donated the cornerstone of R20 000 towards the new classroom at Khaya Cheshire. “TAVCOR is very proud to be associated with Khaya Cheshire and Miracle Kids and pleased to be a part of the incredible work they do for disabled children in our community” said Megan.
