The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa, told SAPS members at a public meeting in Xaba Hall, Uitenhage yesterday to utilize their resources effectively for the improvement of peoples’ lives. Mthethwa addressed issues of police service delivery such as response times.
On the statement by members of the public on how some members of SAPS simply did not do their work, the Minister unequivocally stated that he will not tolerate police who do not work. He acknowledged that resources were scarce but police must change their approach where necessary and deploy resources that are available including human resources, effectively. He pleaded with the community not to take the law into their hands and allow the police to do their work.
The visit came at an opportune time when the Nelson Mandela Bay communities are grappling with recent acts of mob justice and xenophobic attacks.
This meeting is part of the MEC of the Ministry of Human Settlement, Safety and Liaison, Helen Sauls-August’s, Programme with members of the Eastern Cape Justice, Crime Prevention, and Security (JCPS) Cluster, to address crime related issues.
The MEC of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, will tomorrow meet the community of KwaNobuhle in Uitenhage, Babs Madlakane Hall at 17h00.
