Maybe THIS SHARK FISHING will get @GordonRamsay_ to Algoa Bay

16 April 2017 By Alan Straton

Methinks it is time for Gordon Ramsay to pop down to Algoa Bay along with tourist Jens Höptner to have a look at the shark fishing here. Jens, on his seventh trip to South Africa, spent some time observing marine wildlife and was shocked to see a long line fishing boat hauling sharks out of the sea. (See: Sharks Killed ‘Wholesale’ in Algoa Bay)

Jens, after seeing and photographing a “terrible thing” was moved to write to the ECPTA questioning why such ‘wholesale slaughter’ of this apex predator was allowed.

He then ramped up his outrage and published an open letter on a popular dive news site in Europe. (See: Shark Slaughter – Not Cool for Port Elizabeth)

The Port Elizabeth based fishing vessel, Suiram VH, is owned by Sharmilla van Heerden of Fisherman Fresh who, in a 26 March 2015 article in The Herald, stated; “… we make sure that we target non-endangered species of sharks. We export them to Australia where shark products such as fillets are in great demand.”

This 2011 video explains that Gordon Ramsay loves sharks, and this passion leads him on his most personal mission yet – to investigate the controversial dish, shark fin soup.

To understand more about the kings of the ocean, Gordon plunges in to swim with the deadly bull shark, in his scariest challenge to date.

It’s estimated that each year 100 million sharks are killed worldwide, and Gordon wants to find out if the slaughter is really necessary. Sharks are both terrifying and beautiful, but experts believe overfishing is threatening to drive a third of the world’s open ocean shark species to extinction.

Incredibly, some of the most threatened species remain untouched by international fishing regulations. What Gordon discovers on his journey leads him to campaign against the brutal and destructive shark fishing industry.
