Magnetic Storm wins Transnet National Ports Authority tender to bring the People’s Port Festival to life

3 November 2018 By Port Elizabethan

Following a formal tender process, for the second consecutive year, Magnetic Storm has been appointed to bring the People’s Port Festival to life for Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA).

Managing the event from conceptualisation through to clean-up, Magnetic Storm is overseeing the logistics of the event being held on December 1st and 2nd, in partnership with TNPA and its stakeholders.

“We’re delighted to be appointed to bring the People’s Port Festival together and making a beautiful, working port something to inspire the community,” remarks Magnetic Storm CEO, Glenn van Eck. “Last year was a huge success, and we’re looking to build on the connected experiences visitors had in our concept for 2018.”

TNPA Port Manager, Rajesh Dana, adds: “Our port is a hub of activity, pulling together a multitude of careers, people and backgrounds, but so few people have experienced its magic. Together with Magnetic Storm we will bring Nelson Mandela Bay residents to the port for them to discover this magical place in our beautiful city.”

The vision for the event is to have a substantial social, economic and tourism benefit to the city; “The TNPA wants to share its vision of a ‘smart people’s port’ and the proposed Port Elizabeth Waterfront project, and get the community engaged in the port and all it has to offer,” adds van Eck.

Using a diverse programme of activities, demonstrations and entertainment, visitors to the festival will be able to experience the inner-workings of a busy port, the magic of the ocean, watersports and the lifestyle the port offers.

“The port is a hub of activity, business and leisure and this is a chance to open it up to the city. It’s an incredible opportunity for the communities within our region to experience the port for free,” explains Lourens Venter, Magnetic Storm general manager. “It is our pleasure to once again collaborate with TNPA to bring the port and its activities to life for all to enjoy.”
