Local artist, Wehrner Lemmer’s latest sculpture

Local artist, Wehrner Lemmer, has asked Port Elizabethan Galvaspin to prepare and protect his latest piece of art from the elements.

Over the years, Lemmer has become well known for his earthy Africa inspired work. Remaining true to his roots, his new piece is an evolution and will see the use of colour more and more.

Of his evolution, Wehrner Lemmer said: “Keeping up with interiors trends, and personal tastes evolving, including mine, my new work is embracing vibrant colours this nation infuses. But I will never neglect the shapes and textures from my previous work.”

With his art previously for use indoor, Lemmer is experimenting with his new piece by treating it to be displayed outdoors.

“Using bright colours on his work, Wehrner needs to treat his sculpture to prevent the metal corroding and affecting the sculptures’ aesthetics.” Said Galvaspin Managing Director Henning van Wyk, “Knowing the finish he wanted, we have thermal metal sprayed the piece, and once a colour is decided we will coat with a protective duplex coating giving it the colour he wants.

“Usually used in an industrial environment, it’s great to apply this to a ‘finer’ item.”

The piece still unnamed, will be titled once the final coat is applied.
