Dear MyPE
As much as the Eastern Cape is most-probably Africa’s Capital in Jealousy & Schadenfreude / Epicaricacy (deriving pleasure from the misfortune of others), it also consists of Freethinkers that are few and far in-between though.
The long-lasting libraries’ lockdown could be ascribed to the stereotype that Blacks don’t read hence the prolonging thereof, despite our current Level 1 of the Covid-19 restriction. I mean, according to our democracy i.e Affirmative policy, the majority of our libraries’ staff are non-Aryan thereby knowing that Black people mostly visit libraries for enforced research, studying, group work, looking for vacancies etc. and therefore not merely being autodidacts (self-taught individuals) that are slow in militancy as reading calms the mind and promote ideas.
We are a nation that loves ready-mades though, especially in the main 3 commodities that are worshiped nowadays, namely Money, Status and/or Materialism that also seem to have replaced The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit in Christianity too.
Libraries are therefore seen as slow coaches in the acquisition of those shallow human validations that bring people together, keep them together and/or make them drift apart.
