On a micro level MyPE can confirm higher numbers of visitors to www.MyPE.co.za with higher advertising earnings for the past two weeks.
Consider the spend by the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on preparing for the test. As an example – teams from BA (Building Automation) Systems have been working from early each morning checking and maintaining the stadium lights and electrical systems.
All Port Elizabeth’s Hotels, Guest Houses and BnB’s are fully occupied. It would appear that the airlines are running out of seats to accommodate the demand for the test match. This is a clear indication of the number of visitors from outside of Port Elizabeth. Asof yesterday ticket sales were nearing capacity with over 38 000 tickets sold. All expectations are that we will see a capacity crowd (42 000).
Companies providing logistics and services to the stadium are experiencing a marked increase in business and turnover.
The amount of ‘foreign’ money flowing into the city helps immensely with our ‘balance of payments’. The more money into our region from outside the better for all of us.
Mpho Mokonyama, MBDA – NMB Stadium Manager says; “Events of this magnitude indicate positive growth for the destination in terms of both brand image and media exposure. The success of the Rugby Championship indicates the capacity for Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and the City to continue to host event and others like it, which can only positively impact the local economy and tourism industry.”
Mokonyama says that an experienced Mandela Bay Development Agency team is ready to deliver a spectacular Springbok test.
The Springboks have played five test matches at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and remain undefeated in Port Elizabeth. After their stellar performance against world champions New Zealand, fans can expect a nail-biting final between the Springboks and the Wallabies this Saturday.
Mokonyama said; “We strive to always provide a new experience for our fans and are always trying to find ways of ensuring a great combination of variety and value. While the NMB Stadium remains rooted in rugby and soccer, we are seeking to host new adventure and lifestyle events to showcase the stadium’s flexibility to host events of any calibre.”
Upcoming confirmed events at the stadium:
- 15 PSL Fixtures
- 8 PRO14 Rugby Fixtures
- SA vs Australia Test
- Colour Run
- Urban Night Relay
- Africa Advanced Manufacturing
- Telkom Cup Final
- Ebubeleni Music Festival
