In the heady days of being given a Super Rugby franchise for 2013 and with the benefit of hindsight we need to examine how promises, lies and pig headed stupidity led to nearly destroying peoples lives.
Think about those coaches who moved from other countries to coach the Southern Kings, think of those coaches and players, once in the inner circle, who saw the writing on the wall with no place to go until, finally, the money dried up and a crisis decision to leave had to be made. Sad.
People have long memories and the little digs and needles against the Southern Kings, EP Kings and Eastern Province in general are bubbling to the surface – first with gentle exploring of the landscape and then ever increasing put downs as local rugby fights its own internal battles – too exhausted to put out these other fires such as the smoulder below.

“Brad Mooar used to work as a lawyer, so knows how to dance delicately around a sensitive subject.
Now working as a backline assistant to Todd Blackadder at the Crusaders, Mooar was employed by the Kings in 2013 when fellow Cantabrian Matt Sexton was head coach of the South African side.
The two Kiwis hoped to enhance their coaching careers in Port Elizabeth, but instead got an insight on how a team can be destroyed by politics and meddling officials.
Awarded entry into Super Rugby at the expense of the Johannesburg-based Lions, the Kings, unable to contract marquee players because many were locked into deals with other teams, banged their heads on the deck when the rug was whipped from under their feet.”
