Kamesh SAPS apprehend suspect with illegal firearm and ammunition – #GunsOffTheStreets

In order to prevent and combat crime that may threaten the safety and security of community members, police officials from Kamesh SAPS in the Uitenhage Cluster performed their duties in line with the Back-to-Basics approach. Members received valuable information at 11:30 yesterday, Friday, 27 October 2017 and immediately clamped down on criminal activities. It resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old male suspect who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm (Lorcin 9mm) and ammunition in Kamesh Road, Uitenhage. The 28-year-old male was detained on the charges and he is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 30 October 2017. During the same incident, a second male suspect (32) was questioned and further investigations revealed that the second suspect was linked to a truck hijacking that occurred in Kwadwesi during September 2017. The 32-year-old male suspect was detained on the hijacking case and is due to appear in court soon.

The immediate action of the police ensured that yet another illegal firearm was removed from the community that might have been used for the commission of a serious or violent crime(s). The firearm will be sent for ballistics analysis. Uitenhage acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll lauded the members for the arrests and said: “Members from the South African Police Service will continue to intensify their actions to rid the streets of this Cluster of all illegal guns and dangerous criminals”.

The South African Police Service wants to encourage the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime and they appeal to the community to provide valuable information that will lead to the confiscation of illegal firearms and the arrest of suspects.
