On 1st December 2018, World Aids Day, the employees of BAIC South Africa and BAIC International donated R40 000 worth of educational toys and other basic necessities to children of Under the Tree Early Childhood Development Care Centre in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth.
At the handover event where BAIC SA employees spent a fun filled day at the centre with the children, the CEO of BAIC SA, Mr Nemo Tian said “BAIC SA is passionate about developing the communities all-around of South Africa, touching the lives of the people of the Mandela Metro. Such initiatives are important to us. We are delighted to have spent this fun filled day with the children of Under the Tree and put smiles on their faces”.
Under the Tree was founded in 2014 by Tia Wessels who is a Social Worker by profession. It is an organisation that provides pre-school children with access to a range of safe, accessible high quality comprehensive early childhood development services. Their mission is to bring positive change to the lives of the pre-school children and their families in informal settlements around Port Elizabeth area, with a strong focus on Motherwell.
“I feel overwhelmed and ecstatic about the donation, which has assisted over 60 children at Under the Tree. We received kiddie scooters, books, nappies and other essentials that will make a huge difference in the lives of the children and their families,” said Nombulelo Plaaitjie, the Principal of Under the Tree ECD.
The employees of BAIC SA are determined in making a difference in the areas immediately the Coega based BAIC plant; which was officially launched in July this year; and ensured that the donation would go towards needy children of the Motherwell area as a start and in future, expand to other parts of the city and eventually the country at large.
The BAIC Group is devoted to transforming communities with a core focus of impacting the lives of children internationally.
In Mexico, BAIC employees support and recently donated essentials to the of victims of the September 19, Puebla Earthquake and donated school bags to poor children. In Iran they support initiatives which aid homeless women and children and provide tuition fees to poor learners in Yunnan, China.
