An avid Port Elizabeth surfer, Josh Enslin will put his mental and physical prowess to the test when he attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the longest surfing marathon on 14 and 15 November 2015.
The 30-year old surfer will attempt a surfing session lasting more than 30 hours, to smash the current record of 29 hours and 27 minutes that was set by American surfer Ben Shaw * in August last year.
The record attempt will take place at Pollock Beach on 14 and 15 November. The attempt involves Enslin catching a wave about every five minutes.
Enslin’s attempt at the record will be for more than a simple title, he will also be using the media attention generated by the attempt to help stage a massive donation drive to benefit those less fortunate in Port Elizabeth’s surf community.
“We will be gathering and donating old surf equipment and old wetsuits and blankets and canned food that Cyoh Surf Club will donate to underprivileged surfers around our surf community,” said Enslin. “We will be donating blankets and canned food to the street children of Port Elizabeth.”
Josh ‘Gypsy’ Enslin, born in Cape St Francis, is a product of Alexander Road High School and studied BCom at Damelin.
He is presently the Billabong Regional Retail Manager.

*Ben Shaw, the Kure Beach, California native and business professor at Cape Fear Community College, took to his local break in an effort to beat the Guinness Book of World Records current record of 29 hours and 5 minutes held by Kurtis Loftus, of Jacksonville, Florida. Why did he do it? To raise awareness for non-profit Ocean Cure, an organization “dedicated to giving free surf lessons to medically fragile and at risk youth and adults.”
