Jordaan abandons “Mayoral Imbizo” in ongoing evasion of accountability

The following is an extract from a speech delivered by DA Mayoral Candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay, Athol Trollip, at a public meeting in Colleen Glen last night.

Mayor Danny Jordaan has this evening abandoned the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay, and undermined accountability by not showing up for his “mayoral imbizo” in Colchester.

After indefinitely cancelling his State of the Metro Address, Jordaan has now ditched his own mayoral imbizo, in the face of a growing list of ANC broken promises in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Growing ANC infighting is preventing the ANC-Jordaan administration from delivering on its promises, and is an important indicator of instability.

Jordaan is in hiding from the people, with no successes to show for his term of office. Where there are no good stories to tell, it’s not surprising Jordaan can’t account.

While engaging with residents across the Bay today, firstly at a business leaders breakfast this morning, then with the people of Helenvale and Chatty, and finally here with Colleen Glen residents, the call is clear: we need change in our Metro – change that delivers accountable governance, better services, cuts corruption and creates jobs.

The DA is determined to win Nelson Mandela Bay at this year’s municipal election to usher in an accountable government that delivers better services, cuts corruption and creates jobs.

The DA believes that a new inspiring vision for the Bay is needed in order to kick start economic growth and get Nelson Mandela Bay out of its current state of stagnation.
