Join Port Elizabeth and MyPE in congratulating Mover and Shaker, Jonker Fourie from ECTOUR:
Emfuleni Corridor Tourism (ECTOUR) appointed Jonker Fourie as it’s new Chief Executive Office and he took up his post in February.
ECTOUR, a non-profit company, was established in 1999 as part of the Emfuleni Resorts casino bid commitment with Sun International. It acts as an umbrella body of active tourism associations from the 9 tourism regions across the Eastern Cape and its vision is to be the recognised, respected and effective, cooperative voice for private sector tourism to market and develop the Eastern Cape as a viable and sustainable world class destination. ECTOUR can be found on the net at www.ectour.org.za and a Facebook page has been created since Fourie started called “Experience our Eastern Cape”.
Fourie started out in the tourism industry as a tourist guide with his own tour operator business in 1998. Over the years he worked freelance for various national tour operators and spent the last 6 years as Leisure Tourism Coordinator (including trade, consumers and events) at Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism.
Travel is in Fourie’s blood and an absolute passion for him, causing it to spill over into his hobbies and pastime. He is a keen travel photographer and runs two travel blogs – The Firefly Photo Files and Port Elizabeth Daily Photo. His other passion is Geocaching (see the travel connection here as well?) and he was recently announced as the 2013 Port Elizabeth Geocacher of the year. You can find him online (both on Twitter and Facebook) as FireflyAfrica.
