Jody Butler is a local singer/ actor who has ventured out internationally. His performances  include musical reviews and shows onboard some of the worlds most prestigious cruise lines.  He has lived in Johannesburg where held residence with a live band, giving weekly performances at the renowned Katzy’s in Rosebank. He was also a weekly performer at the Emperors Palace Casino, also in Johannesburg.

Born and raised in Port Elizabeth, Jody got his start in theatre while still being at high school, partaking in various drama competitions.  His involvement with CAPAB drama and the Showtime Theatre has gotten him a few local awards and was a natural migration to the Guilbert & Sullivan Theatre Society at the Savoy Theatre.  “G&S is home. No matter where I travel in the world,  its where I received my start as a 15 year  old rehearsing for the role of Billis in the musical SOUTH PACIFIC.”

Jody Butler is a performer with range and delivers heart and soul when interpreting songs for his audience. ” The privilege and responsibility of the singer is to be the translator between writer and audience. Whether the song has been previously recorded or not. A story is shared through the soul of the singer,  transporting the audience back in.  It is important not to focus on how I am sounding but to empathise with the writer and be a conduit.”

The vehicle of  telling heartfelt stories through song is accomplished by the various genres of musical styles Jody Butler performs. From R’nB to Soul to Classical Musical, Rock and Pop. All these genres were polished during a decade of performances on board cruise lines.

He brings these genres, heart and soul and experience home, ready to tell his musical story and through song.
