Jenni Lawrence – Top 40 Under 40

21 December 2011 By Alan Straton

The Top 40 under 40 is a showcase of local business talent under the age of 40 compiled by the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber (NMBBC).

Jenni Lawrence (36) is the Director of Operations at Grant Thornton Verification Services.

Born in Port Elizabeth, much of Jenni Lawrence’s experience in administration, marketing and HR was gained during her ten year stay in London, in the UK. “When my son was born, the call of home became too great to ignore,” says Lawrence, “and so we made our way back to Nelson Mandela Bay.”

Lawrence joined IQuad BEE as an analyst and marketer in 2008, and was soon promoted to the position of Director of Operations in 2009. This year saw the company publish its first e-book, BEE Known. “Co-authoring the book with our MD, Wade van Rooyen, was a challenging but rewarding experience,” she says. “It is a much-needed BEE guide, and has been very well received by our clients and strategic partners. This year has also seen us change ownership and rebrand as Grant Thornton Verification Services.”

Lawrence was recognized as a top three finalist in the corporate category of the Business Women’s Association Regional Business Achiever Awards in June this year. “There is great potential, skill, talent and opportunity in the Bay. I am constantly surprised by what can be achieved by simply persevering.”

The Top 40 Under 40 list, an NMBBC initiative, was compiled from nominations and selected by an independent panel at the NMBBC. The end result is a showcase of talented and ambitious young businesspeople from diverse sectors in Nelson Mandela Bay. From 7 December 2011, MyPE showcases one under 40 achiever a day.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
