Jansenville service station shows its heart:

EASTERN CAPE, October 2019 – UNEMPLOYED JANSENVILLE SINGLE mother Leonie Jantjies and her severely disabled son, Ashwin, 17, had much to celebrate when the Karoo town’s fuel service station, Caltex Noorsveld, donated a brand-new wheelchair to the family recently.
Ashwin suffered permanent brain damage at birth due to the negligence of hospital staff – he has cerebral palsy as a result and, as he is unable to do anything for himself, his mother had to give up her job to look after him full time.
Leonie said that the bigger and more easily manageable wheelchair with greater mobility assistance was “a huge blessing” because Ashwin had outgrown his previous wheelchair and was unable to sit comfortably in the chair anymore.
Caltex Noorsveld customer service attendants (CSAs) were quick to give Leonie a hand to move Ashwin to his new wheelchair.
Thanking Caltex Noorsveld’s ‘Tannie Bettie’ van Wyk and the team, Leonie said the gift was something she had never expected to happen to them as a family and she was grateful for the assistance of Caltex Eastern Cape Marketer (CECM) for joining with Noorsveld Auto to make the donation possible.
“When I woke up this morning and looked at the date, I told myself maybe this is just a dream,” said the shy mother. “But look at him now – he is sitting all comfortably in his new chair, wearing his new warm Caltex jacket with pride. He is even keeping his beanie on and he normally hates wearing a hat,” she laughed.
Leonie explained that she was unable to work full time as Ashwin needed 24-hour care and since winning the court case against the hospital earlier this year, she needed to make regular trips with him to Johannesburg to see the various medical specialists involved in his care.
Caltex Noorsveld Auto’s Louis Nel, Bettie van Wyk and Andries Oelofsen were present at the handover. “We want to thank the residents of Jansenville and all the motorists whose support made it possible for us to help this family. Remember, the more you support us the more we are able to assist and support those in need around us here in Jansenville,” said Bettie.
Nel said this was not a once-off gesture. “Caltex Noorsveld Auto cares about our community and we will continue lending a hand where needed to ‘onse mense’,” he said.
Pat Kelly, Caltex Eastern Cape Marketer (CECM) Acting CEO, congratulated the Caltex Noorsveld team for caring about the community around them and said that “even small businesses can make a big difference in someone else’s life”.
