Join Port Elizabeth and MyPE in congratulating Mover and Shakers, James Pearce and Charles Stretch from SMSPortal:
Each year Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University honours alumini who have made, and continue to make valuable contributions in their field and society and exemplify the NMMU values.
Last night, Charles Stretch and James Pearce SMSPortal’s co-founders were recipients of the NMMU Alumni Association Rising Star Award for 2013.
Starting in the back of a garage with R20,000 and sending 30,000 SMSes a month, today, SMSPortal turns over R400 million and sends 180 million SMSes each month.
Charles Stretch said of the recognition: “James and I are extremely proud of our achievements and appreciate the guidance and support we had from NMMU during our studies there. SMSPortal started as a sideline to our studies, and in 2002 we could never have imagined being where we are now. To have our hard work acknowledged by our alma mater is a privilege.”
