Jacobs and Kallis out of Warriors CLT20 Team

22 August 2011 By Alan Straton

The Warriors squad for the Nokia CLT20 competition due to start on 23 September in India has been announced. The team will leave for India on 17 September and the squad have been in training for a couple of weeks.

In preparation for the season ahead as well as the CLT20 the Chevrolet Warriors will play practice matches against the Highveld Lions this week at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

The matches are as follows:

  • 3 day match at NMMU starting on Tuesday 23 August at 10:00.
  • 1 day match at NMMU on Saturday 27 August at 10:00.
  • Pro20 match at NMMU on Sunday 28 August at 11:00

The team that will represent the Eastern Cape in the CLT20 tournament is as follows: Andrew Birch, Nicky Boje, Johan Botha (Captain), Mark Boucher, Colin Ingram, Justin Kreusch, Lyall Meyer, Makhaya Ntini, Wayne Parnell, Ashwell Prince, Jon-Jon Smuts, Kelly Smuts, Rusty Theron, Craig Thyssen and Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

Eight players that are playing in the 2011 Champions League Twenty20 were originally each selected by two different teams. Brett Lee, Jacques Kallis, Kieron Pollard, Brad Haddin, Dwayne Bravo, Doug Bollinger, Davy Jacobs and Aiden Blizzard will all play for their Indian Premier League teams rather than their ‘home’ teams during the tournament, which runs from 19th September to 9th October.

Chevrolet Warriors Captain, Davy Jacobs will be playing for the Mumbai Indians and Jacques Kallis for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Decisions which I am sure tugged at their heart strings but were overidden by the purse strings.
