Google recently announced that they will no longer be passing referrer information to web sites.

Essentially what happened in the past was when someone did a search using Google’s search box that search term used on Google was passed on to the web site that Google refered the searcher to. Google has now stopped handing that data on and instead tells the webmaster and analyst that the search term is “Not Provided”.

Understandably many SEO and Marketing experts are now left with no data whatsoever from Google to plan their strategies with. Other search engines like Ask, Bing and Yahoo have not announced any plans to follow suit, though.

So what does this have to do with MyPE, searching in the directory and refer stats?

Simple, any visitor traffic directed to YOUR web site from MyPE will still appear as a referral in your stats – whether you are using Google Analytics or Cpanel stats. At this moment in time we do not pass the keyword data on but are exploring that option.

Despite this hiccup in analysis tools MyPE remains very strong and, for those of you who are familiar with Cpanel stats, then the following, taken from MyPE for September 2013 will have meaning for you: Links from an external page to MyPE (other web sites except search engines) 7 453 different pages.

The following will put this loss of data into perspective:

  • In month of September 2013 the Google search engine sent 78 048 visitors (Cpanel Stats) to MyPE and Google ‘hid’ 31 232 keywords that brought those people to MyPE – effectively we do not know what those people wanted to find on the site. This number is expected to increase to 100% of all searches done on Google very shortly.
  • In the same period Microsoft Bing sent 6 894 visitors to MyPE
  • Ask sent 749 visitors to MyPE
  • Yahoo! sent 2 330 visitors to MyPE

Contrast the above numbers with the whopping 7 453 visitors sent from other sites that have voluntarily linked to MyPE!
