IPTS Affected Taxi’s

The initial compensation agreement between the NMBM and the taxi industry included 60 Directly Affected Taxi Operators. These directly affected taxi operators agreed to hand in their vehicles and operating licenses to the NMBM for an amount of R6 500 per month each as compensation during the implementation of the pilot phase of the IPTS project. The pilot phase was to run for a period of one year commencing January 2013 – January 2014 at which point the compensation to Kyoscan would cease. The pilot phase came to an end on 21 January 2014.

Additional information relating to the IPTS project revealed that further payments had been made to Kyoscan during the months of June, September and December 2014. These payments raised concerns as the compensation agreement had already terminated in January 2014 and no further payments should have been due and payable to Kyoscan. (See photo’s below of affected taxi’s which were assessed by Axios Consulting before the hand in of taxi’s to the Metro and the poor condition of them).

The 60 taxi operators have received R9.3 million over the last 24 months and the taxi’s are still in storage.
