If it’s Biltong you are After …

9 May 2012 By Alan Straton

The Castle Lager East Cape Biltong Festival promises to be a star-studded affair this year with Steve Hofmeyr, Zahara, Theuns Jordaan and Professor being some of the names gracing the stage in Somerset East. These authentically South African artists will be setting the Karoo alight with their performances, thus making the 22nd Castle Lager East Cape Biltong Festival on 13 and 14 July 2012, an event not to be missed this winter.

Steve Hofmeyr, a veteran on the South African music scene and one of the biggest names in the Afrikaans music industry, will after a long absence, be appearing at the Festival. Another SAMA winner, the sensational Zahara will also be gracing the stage with her guitar. Her debut album “Loliwe” recently sold a staggering 100 000 copies in barely 19 days.

The Castle Lager East Cape Biltong Festival, however, is not only a fun community event, but a proudly South African festival that is about giving back to the area. Every year the profits from the Festival’s Beer Tent, run by the Somerset East Round Table, are donated to a series of organisations that assist the underprivileged. To date, R175 000 has been donated.

The Festival boasts over 200 stalls for all to enjoy, from biltong to all sorts of gadgets, clothes and edibles. You can also look forward to great performances by Elvis Blue, Jamali, Emo Adams, Robbie Wessels and many more. The line-up and activities at this year’s Castle Lager East Cape Biltong Festival is certain to set your Karoo winter ablaze!
