Human Traffickers Bail Application Hearing

11 January 2011 By John Preller

They say the wheels of justice grind slowly. On Wednesday 12th January the wheels of justice will complete another revolution as six Nigerian Nationals prepare to argue their bail applications.

They stand accused of raping under aged girls between 11, 12  and 13 years of age, human trafficking, living off the proceeds of prostitution generated by minor girls, assault of minor girls, and dealing in dangerous dependence producing substances listed as rocks cocaine on a daily basis.

On Friday 14th January the wheels of justice will continue grinding slowly and exceedingly fine as the magistrate hands down his decision allowing or denying bail.

The SAPS have opposed bail in the strongest possible terms.

The public prosecutor presented compelling evidence and arguments to reinforce the SAPS opposition to bail being granted.
Now the fate of these six Nigerians lies in the scales and the blindfolded lady Justice who holds the sword of power to decide this crucial question.

If the six accused stay in jail they face a possible land mark high court appearance in the following months.

The charges are serious and if found guilty the accused will be confronted with very long if not life long prison sentences that will undoubtedly be requested by the prosecution and supported by the SAPS

All credit must go to the formidable team of Adv Z Swanepoel leading the prosecution and Marcel van der Watt of Organised crime who have relentlessly pursued this case over the years with outstanding police work and a fine eye for detail resulting in these six accused being charged.
