Howitz Crowned Victor

By

The Glacéau Vitamin Water Summer Series Triathlon ended on Thursday morning at Pollok Beach with a well attended and fast race. In the fastest time of the 2011 Series, Dan Howitz won the Sprint Distance triathlon in 1hr 4min to claim the overall Series title from defending champion Ryan Peter who finished 7 seconds later to claim his 3rd consecutive silver medal placing in the Series. Border youngster Nathan Le Roux placed 3rd in a time of 1hr 6min.

“The Series was awesome with different exciting and challenging routes.” said Series winner Howitz who was back at work immediately after the event. “Coming into today’s race I was tied with Ryan on overall points and knew that I’d have to push hard through the technical bike leg. I was confident that if it came down to a sprint finish I had speed on my side.”

Defending ladies champion Liza Bright completed a hat-trick of wins to secure the 2011 title. Bright won the round 3 race in 1hr 11min, finishing 12th overall. Jade Hooke was second with Ingrid Brown in third place.

“We had awesome weather for all three races in the Series and it was wonderful to have such positive feedback for our different routes. Each of the three race days saw different challenging legs for the 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.” said Mike Zoetmulder from Zports, the organisers of the Series on behalf of Eastern Province Triathlon Association.
