How to submit events for publication on MyPE

22 April 2013 By Alan Straton

You may submit any Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage or Despatch event to the MyPE Events Calendar for free publication – all events are tweeted out via the MyPE Twitter account as well as being published here.

In the main menu you will see an ‘EVENTS‘ link, hovering over that will invoke a dropdown – click on the ‘Add Your Port Elizabeth Event‘ link and fill in the form (or scroll down a little bit to submit your event here).

These tips will make sure that your event is seen by the most people:

  • Use a descriptive and evocative title
  • In your description repeat what the event is about, when it is taking place, when it ends, who to contact for tickets and any other pertinent information.
  • IF you upload an image please reduce it to a maximum of 600 pixels wide BEFORE uploading. Reducing the size to below 100 kilobytes will also make a far better experience for your readers.
  • It is vital that you put WORDS in the description – uploading an image only will not help in reaching many people. Search engines (and Google loves MyPE) cannot index the words in an image so you are actually wasting your time only uploading a poster of your event.
  • When selecting a venue start typing and look for your venue in the drop down as you type.
  • Don’t forget to tick the box if your event recurs on a regular basis between two dates.
  • Select the correct category
  • Port Elizabeth Events ONLY please – any other events will be deleted.

Advertise your events on MyPE and you will get more than three attendees! See below for what happened to the crowd attendance at RUGBY!

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
