A chocolate Easter village, a children’s fun zone and giant bunnies handing out eggs to children – the annual holiday in Nelson Mandela Bay will be filled with fun thanks to Baywest Mall’s first Easter celebrations.

Baywest marketing manager Samantha Hewitson said the mall planned to make its first Easter holiday since opening last year May an exciting one for Bay residents and families visiting from out of town. The Hop, Hop Hooray Baywest Easter takes place from March 25 to 28.

It includes mall anchor tenant Checkers, which has set up its Easter Chocolate Village in the food court area, and Mambo’s Plastics Warehouse which has set up a children’s Fun Zone, also in the centre court.

Meanwhile, a 1m tall container filled with over 1 000 Easter eggs is up for grabs for patrons who spend time at the mall’s Fun Factory. Patrons who purchase from participating Fun Factory outlets over Easter can enter the Spend to Win competition, with the draw for the Easter egg container taking place on March 29.

Families looking for activities to keep the kids entertained can head to the Easter Fun Zone in the centre court from 10am to 2pm March 25 to 28. Children can enjoy hop-scotch, have their faces painted, or enter colouring-in competitions, with mall tenants Keedo and Bargain Books giving away hundreds of rands in prizes for artworks chosen in a lucky draw. The winners of Baywest’s Colour Me Cool competition will receive their own custom-designed T-shirts, also sponsored by Keedo.

“Easter is a special time for families, which is why we’ve geared our Easter holiday activities around family activities and fun,” said Hewitson.

Giant Easter bunnies would also be patrolling the mall, handing out marshmallow eggs to children, she said.
