www.MyPE.co.za: From the Atlas Security Crime Newsletter we have picked out a couple of interesting crime incidents:
On Wednesday night last week, just before 23h30, ATLAS received a call from a distressed homeowner in Gomery Avenue, Summerstrand whose home had been broken into.
ATLAS Armed Response Officers were dispatched to the scene and the Police were notified. Meeting with the homeowner on arrival, the Officers found that the brazen burglars had bent back the burglar bars of an open window in one of the bedrooms to gain access to the house. The homeowner confirmed that they had managed to get away with clothing and jewellery that was in the bedroom and luckily they did not go further into the house.
The homeowner’s son was also inside the house at the time and it is assumed that this is the reason why the burglars did not ransack the whole house.
Burglars remove door from hinges to gain access
Shortly after 11h00 on Wednesday, a resident in Water Road, Walmer who runs his business from home, requested ATLAS Armed Response Officers to be dispatched, as suspects had tried to gain access to his business by taking the back door off its hinges.
On arrival, it was found that the burglars had tampered with the wiring of the house before being disturbed by someone or something that made them flee the scene.
Nothing was taken, but they also tried to gain access to the cottage in the yard. The Police were notified and a case of attempted housebreaking was opened.
Sunday night driveway robbery in Cotswold
At 23h56 on Sunday, ATLAS Response Officers received information that a driveway robbery was in progress at a residence in Withlyn Road, Cotswold.
The Officers immediately went to the scene to assist. When they arrived, the police had just begun investigating the robbery. Apparently, as the couple arrived home and pulled into their driveway, robbers stopped behind the couple’s vehicle and flashed their headlights.
Four brazen criminals jumped out of the car brandishing handguns and threatened the couple at gunpoint. They pulled the couple out of the car and pushed them into the garage where they held them captive for a short while. The gang took two sets of keys containing the safe keys and the keys to two taverns that belong to the couple and fled the scene. No shots were fired and the couple was left in a state of shock.
After the robbery, the couple reported the incident to the Police and a case of armed robbery was opened. Unfortunately, because the gang flashed their bright headlights at the couple, they could not identify the colour or other details of the vehicle.
The Police and the necessary Investigating Officers were on site to investigate the crime scene.
Neighbour witnesses thief stealing gate motor
A resident of Albert Road, Walmer witnessed a suspect stealing his neighbour’s gate motor at 20h53 on Monday evening.
He saw a suspicious man bending at his neighbour’s gate and knew that the suspect was up to no good. He phoned ATLAS to dispatch a team to investigate. When he went outside, he saw that the unknown man had opened the cover of the gate motor and had stolen the battery. The man then started to run into the direction of the Walmer Location.
The Officers arrived but the suspect had already fled the scene. They inspected the property and found everything to be locked and secured.
