Hairspray The Musical, opened at the Savoy Theatre last night. The show runs to 7 October every night at 19h30 with additional shows on weekends.
FIRST – Hairspray tells the tale of a Plus Size teenager who solves the segregation madness in Baltimore, USA, gets to dance on National Television AND gets the boy!
BUT, all through the show I grappled with just how to tell the great unwashed to just go and revel in the joy of Hairspray The Musical….
Of course a great headline is what draws people in and actually gets them to buy tickets to see the show.
So – here are a selection of the headlines that ran through my head in a sleepless night of wonder last night:
-
Hairspray – You Have Two Options: “Read my Review & Then Book OR Just Book!”
-
I am on solid ground when I say; “I suspect that the run will have to be extended by popular demand!”
-
My Fok Rose, Maar Gqeberha Het Talent!
-
Just how do you single out one talent in a sea of talent?
-
54EE? Aai Karamba
-
Even if you don’t like Big Butts you will still be in raptures and maybe convert.
-
Better than the Springboks beating New Zealand.
-
Choices: Watch the Boks vs Ireland on Saturday or see Hairspray? Where do I book my Hairspray Tickets? webtickets.coza Dummy
-
OMG – Now I can’t unsee Link as a young Elon Musk!
-
Incredible Voices
-
Who thought that Hairspray would give everyone a Stiff One?
-
Privileged to be present at the moment when the cast realised they had a hit
-
Even this jaded hack took part in the standing ovation
-
It says “community theatre” on the box – I am convinced that they are lying
-
Magnificent choreography and stage direction
-
How do we get this show into every home in the world?
-
Better than an armed security guard…. With ARMS!
-
Forget making every day “Negro Day”, Every Day is Hairspray Day
-
Karen Klan Gets Their Come Uppance!
-
You could try and book tickets to Hairspray but you may be too late to get a seat!
-
Great showcase of lighting and sound
-
Yes, there REALLY is a live band below the stage!
-
Based on audience reaction you would be a fool to not see Hairspray.
-
Given the Choice I would see Hairspray again and again and again and…
-
Better than Faf in his shorts shaking the Princes hand
-
Big, Bold, Colourful and a MUST SEE.
Hairspray The Musical is one of those shows that makes you feel good, is feet tapping good and a real fine demonstration of the incredible work, dedication and passion that every single one of our Community Theatre partcipants put into a show – from the Ushers to the Leads the dedication to their craft shines through and deserves every accolade heaped upon them.
