Southern Kings Player, Hadleigh Parkes, who was playing at wing against the Hurricanes in Wellington, New Zealand, will undergo surgery today, after breaking his arm in three places during the game.
Southern Kings Director of Rugby Alan Solomons said Parkes had been immediately taken to the hospital for x-rays after coming off the field in the 29th minute of the game.
“He has broken his arm in three places and is being operated on tonight before returning home,” he said.
Solomons said the team would be looking at the overall fitness levels of the players back home and would be calling up a player as a matter of urgency.
“We have to assess the state of fitness of all potential candidates. We have had feedback on the performance of the team against Western Province and will be looking at who to call up as a matter of urgency. We need to do that tomorrow and the player has to fly to Sydney tomorrow,” he said.
Solomons said scrumhalf Shaun Venter had a bruised ankle and David Bulbring had come off for a tight hamstring, but that for the most part the players were suffering the usual bumps and bruises from the game. He said a full assessment of all the players’ fitness would be done tomorrow.
