Graham Taylor on our Maritime Heritage

16 September 2024 By Port Elizabethan

Dear Editor

For Heritage Month in September, our next Know your Bay on Tuesday 26 September will see Graham Taylor, Chairman of the Historical Society of Port Elizabeth, talk to us about “the Maritime Heritage of Algoa Bay: from the early humans on the Paleo-Agulhas plain to Gqeberha”. The presentation will take us through the evolution of early humans using the paleo-Agulhas plain to the beginning of the global maritime trade and modern days Gqeberha. He will highlight how understanding our local maritime heritage and putting it forward in our economy could help repairing our city. The event is free and open to all. From 17:30 for 18:00 until 19:00.

Dr Taryn Murray’s talk, on the tagging of fish and the Acoustic Tracking Array Platform, has been postponed to November. An invitation will be circulated closer to the time.

International Coastal Clean up day is taking place this Saturday 21st of September 2024. It is locally coordinated by the Sustainable Seas Trust.
