This was what Kuli Roberts – born in Uitenhage, schooled in Grahamstown and presently on Khaya FM – said on her arrival in Die Baai.
Together with South African Tourism (SAT) popular radio presenter and journalist Kuli Roberts was hosted in the Bay over the weekend of 23 to 25 May 2014 on a “Sho’t Left” visit. The combination of the Sho’t Left campaign and Ms Kuli Roberts had social networks abuzz about activities and sites in and around Nelson Mandela Bay.
Mandlakazi Skefile, CEO of NMBT said; “In a time where social media is a highly effective marketing tool it is important that we find a channel through which to reach relevant target audiences. Therefore we warmly welcomed Ms Roberts who was able to share and showcase the destination through firsthand experiences relevant to her followers.”
Sho’t Left is a domestic campaign by SAT that aims to promote a culture of local holiday travel, targeting ordinary South Africans and their families who have a desire to see more of the country but don’t know where to go even if it is just for a short breakaway. The campaign is aimed at young upcoming individuals, independent couples and families, with research into the domestic tourism market indicating that over 5-million South Africans have both the resources and the desire to travel.
Together with industry stakeholders the Sho’t Left campaign included a luxurious hotel stay, what to do in and around the city, Route 67, The Donkin as well as a trip to Tsitsikamma National Park. These activities and Kuli’s interpretation of them was all captured by Bay TV adding additional value and mileage to marketing Nelson Mandela Bay as the ideal place to visit.
Mostly Roberts was amazed at the cleanliness of the city, friendliness of the people and the relaxed atmosphere, as she shared this and more with over two hundred thousand Twitter followers. Roberts also shared how magical and affordable she found Nelson Mandela Bay to be and re-iterated these sentiments about her Eastern Cape Sho’t Left story to over a million listeners on the Kaya Fm breakfast show on Monday morning, 26 May 2014.
