GOOD – 2019

24 April 2019 By Alan Straton

Ahead of the 8 May National Elections you would do well to acquaint yourself with the Political Parties registered on the National level for the elections.

These political parties are contesting for seats in the 2019 National Assembly elections on 8 May 2019.
Please note you STILL need to go to the polls on 8 May 2019 and VOTE in person .........

  • Vote to see the results of our poll

Today we introduce you to: GOOD

The Good Party is former Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille’s latest political home after her public divorce from the DA. For the purposes of Good campaigning, De Lille is now officially the chummy “Aunty Pat”. Other high-profile party leaders include former DA councillor Brett Herron and singer Alistair Izobell. Good is opposed to amending the Constitution to allow land expropriation without compensation, but big on tackling spatial apartheid in South African cities. It is one of the only parties contesting the 2019 elections to make environmental issues, and climate change, a key policy pillar.

Politics as usual has failed our beautiful country. Now is a GOOD time to fix South Africa. Our GOOD leaders used their experience and expertise, together with NGOs, business and industry experts, and our GOOD community representatives from across South Africa to unite and work on a plan to fix our country’s critical challenges. The GOOD Plan to #FIXSA is based on proven solutions that will solve South Africa’s key problems.

For example, The GOOD Plan means:

  • Applying the methods used by Colombian cities to address the root causes of crime that saw serious crime reducing by more than 80%;
  • Using the hundreds of thousands of parcels of land owned by government and SOE’s to address housing and land shortages by using public land for public good;
  • Giving title to residents of informal settlements so that, like many South America cities, we can eradicate informal settlements by allowing residents to invest in and upgrade their own homes while government provides services like electricity; roads, water and sewage.
  • Growing our economy by creating the conditions conducive for investment, like GOOD leader Patricia de Lille did for Cape Town, where in 2018, 90% of all jobs in the Western Cape were created.

Many of the people involved in GOOD have worked in governance in the City of Cape Town. Their achievements speak volumes!

Under these leaders, City of Cape Town has become the benchmark city for all the metro cities in South Africa and a leading city globally.

It is this governance experience that we wish to bring to the rest of South Africa.
