Golf Road, Walmer: Alien Clearing

9 December 2024 By Port Elizabethan

Hello everyone.

The WESSA Algoa Bay Branch December 2024 alien clearing will be on Saturday 14 December 2024 in Golf Road, Walmer from 09:00 – 11:00. This is a relatively new spot for clearing in the Baakens Valley. We will be starting from the straight stretch of that road overlooking the valley. Access to this starting point will be easiest from either Short Road or 14th Avenue. Turn out of Short Road into Club Road, which becomes Golf Road. Look out for the WESSA feather banner.

The main purpose of these clearings is to further stem the spread of the Rooikrans and other alien invaders in environmentally vulnerable areas. Invasive species still seriously threaten the sensitive indigenous bush. The objective is to eradicate these alien plants and give the local vegetation a good chance to recover and re-establish itself.

Your commitment to these efforts is greatly appreciated. We will provide some tools, but please bring your own bow saw or lopper (if possible). Also bring a hat, water, sunscreen and normal garden gloves.

For more information contact Gisela on 073 124 2045.

See you there.

The WESSA ABB Team.
