Dear Editor
The WESSA Algoa Bay Branch October 2024 alien clearing will be on Saturday 12 October 2024 in Glengarry Crescent, Humewood from 09:00 – 11:00. This will be the last clearing in this particular spot, because, for now, the area is cleared. We will have a little celebration after this clearing! November’s clearing will be advised closer the time.
It is very heartening to see the results and encouraging to know that it can be done. The main purpose of these clearings is to further stem the spread of the Rooikrans and other alien invaders in environmentally vulnerable areas. Invasive species still seriously threaten the sensitive indigenous bush. The objective is to eradicate these alien plants and give the local vegetation a good chance to recover and re-establish itself. Your commitment to these efforts is greatly appreciated. We will provide some tools, but please bring your own bow saw or lopper (if possible). Also bring a hat, water, sunscreen and normal garden gloves.
To get there from the Forest Hill side towards Humewood, turn left out of La Roche Drive into Schafer Square, (which becomes Chalmers Road} and turn left again into Glengarry Crescent. Look out for the WESSA feather banner.
For more information contact Gisela on 073 124 2045.
Regards
The WESSA ABB Team.
