It is World Maths Day today!
Maths is important to everyone in their daily lives, and World Maths Day helps to raise the profile of the subject and show that it can be enjoyable too. National Numeracy believes that everyone can – with effort and support – improve their numeracy. The “I can’t do maths” attitude is simply not acceptable.
Science is another subject that “can’t” doesn’t apply to. What fun to find out that the ears of a cricket are located on its front legs? Or that sound travels 4 times faster in water than it does through air? Science is a fascinating subject with many amazing things to learn and discover.
While academic results are important, we can throw the baby out with the bathwater by focussing on teaching rather than learning.
Whether you have a gifted, average or slow learner there are many tools to make learning exciting and interesting. Improved marks are the inevitable results.
One-on-one tutoring can make an amazing difference as tutors can come at learners out of the left field and spark their excitement for a subject as well as giving them new insights on time management, discipline and fun mnemonics for learning their subject. Generally the tutor is a university student who is able to identify with the learner, support the learner and becomes a role model. This sort of stuff is just not available, in even the best classroom situation.
The best is – the tutor comes to you. Interviewed, reference checked, trained and matched to your requirements. No schlepping around.
How competitive our children’s world has become with pressure from University entrance requirements, school academic reputations, and even our own expectations of them – to say nothing of their own competitiveness. To continue to achieve, to meet all these expectations, in our current school system one-on-one extra tuition is no longer a nice to have but a have to have.
