Schools in the coastal provinces will join the rest of the country on Wednesday when thousands of learners start the 2011 academic year.
Port Elizabeth and Eastern Cape schools will be re-opening on Wednesday and we can expect a raft of too cute images of kids starting school for the first time.
Government officials, including MECs and premiers, are expected to visit various schools in the districts to check school readiness and challenges experienced.
See here: Business Supporting the Eastern Cape Class of 2011 for how the Eastern Cape Department of Education will be visiting in style when the Eastern Cape Education MEC, Mandla Makhuphula, and other government officials conduct random visits to schools from 23 districts, including rural schools, to check on the challenges experienced.
During last year’s matric exams, the Eastern Cape achieved a 58.3 percent pass rate, an increase of 7.3 percent from 2009.
The 2010 Port Elizabeth school matric pass rate was a bit disappointing as as it DECLINED by 1% over 2009.
