Gamble smash course record

16 June 2014 By Alan Straton

In absolutely perfect conditions last Thursday night, the 5 person Men’s relay team from Gamble Pharmacy broke the course record by over 4 minutes to reclaim the Investec Night Relay title at Round 2.

In the idyllic settings of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, close of 100 corporate and social teams took to the streets of Sydenham in the 2nd of 4 race nights of the Investec Night Relay. 2013 defending champions, Gamble Pharmacy, finished the 25km course in a very fast 1 hour 16 minutes from a spirited Transnet team who were the victors at round 1 last month. The Flying Sages from Sage VIP claimed 3rd spot for the 2nd month in a row. Conditions were absolutely ideal for running and this resulted in the top two teams improving the course record which was set last month.

In the ladies category, it was the team from Aquabear ladies which won in 1hr 49minutes from the teams from Wimpy and Access Management. In the Mixed running category, the Transnet Lions team won for the 2nd month running in a time of 1hr 29 minutes followed by Investec 1 and the Never Give Up team from the Metro. In the Walking category, the Bluewater Bay Athletics team remains the team to beat, winning round 2 in a fast 1hr 24min from the Transnet Tigers and the social team Happy Gas.

Round 3 of this 4 part Series will take place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Thursday 10th July.
