Fuel Price Conundrum

4 October 2023 By Port Elizabethan

Dear Editor

The fuel price is perennially on the increase, whilst the likes of the legendary Sasol [Suid Afrikaanse Steenkool, Olie en Gaskorporasie / South Africa Coal, Oil and Gas Corporation] came up with a Coal-to-Liquid Fuel technology long time ago; theoretically enabling South African fuel prices to be in the realm of Single Digit per Litre => R9/L and downwards; akin to Malaysia through the said country’s government-owned Petronas that is mostly using its native & abundant Palm Trees as a fuel extraction resource.

PetroSA, its South African counterpart however, is a typical lame duck parastatal that is sticking to its credible mandate anyway, in being primarily an enrichment and protection conduit for ANC anointees; thus contributing to our ultimate Parastatal Parasitism & Paralysis [3P] governing cartel characteristic. We are really in a pickle in South Africa, but our Kakistocracy [inept governance] is not entirely to blame as global gluttony is also a contributing factor to our de facto economic oppression.

Just as one of my simplicity inspiration and muse … Enzo Anselmo Ferrari … opined philosophically on his erstwhile friend, fellow racing driver and entrepreneur … Vincenzo Lancia … in his My Terrible Joys autobiography:- ‘When one thinks of him [Vincenzo], one can conclude that what could be ascribed to bad luck, might only be a simple case of incapability.”

In the South African context, we seem to be incapable of seeing, let alone respecting, anything beyond the money, status and/or materialism yardstick; hence our bumbling and status-conscious government functionaries have put the entire country in the firing line of international oil prices’ manipulating and obsfucating gluttons by gambling in tandem with the BRICS concoction’s chips in a seemingly Russian Roulette game of chances, excuse Vladimir Putin’s Russian Federation fiefdom pun though.

Regards
