Artists in Nelson Mandela Bay have a new exhibition to challenge and inspire them to make exceptional art. This selected exhibition has been organized by Friends of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum. The exhibition coincides with the National Arts Festival held in Grahamstown and will be opening on the 15th of June in the Main and Lorimer halls of the Art Museum.
The theme for this year’s exhibition is “Skin” and artists in the Bay have been working tirelessly in their studios over the last few months to produce dynamic artworks to wow and amaze the selection panel.
The selection panel is made up of seven local art experts who have been asked to produce work for the exhibition themselves while nominating another local artist to contribute to the exhibition.
The selection panel will be chaired by Bretten-Anne Moolman, an artist, art teacher and Chairman of the Friends of the Art Museum. Other members of the panel include: Dr Melanie Hillebrand, Director, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum; Mary Duker, Director, School of Music, Art and Design, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University; Amanda Snyman, Head of Stained Glass, Studio Arts, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University; Michael Barry, artist and Head of Arts and Culture, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University; Dr Gregory Kerr, Director, Greg Kerr Fine Art; Jennifer Ord, local artist and Tim Hopwood, local artist and musician.
The Friends of the Art Museum was founded in 1975 and plays a vital role in the development of the Art Museum and its collections.
The Skin exhibition will be listed on the 2011 National Arts Festival Fringe.
