Free Innovative Thinking workshop

19 April 2016 By Alan Straton

One of the biggest innovative thinking issues that face small businesses is that “entrepreneurs are solution-driven but many small businesses do not have sufficient capacity to devise innovative solutions for their customers,” says Mary-Ann Chetty, senior innovation manager at the Innovation Office of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU).

She will be presenting a free one day Innovative Thinking workshop for small business leaders at the Propella Futuremakers Hub on Wednesday, May 4 from 9am until 12pm.

The Hub invites all small to medium size business in the area to attend this workshop, which will teach them how to enable a culture which fosters creativity in their companies.

Attendees will also gain an understanding of what innovation means, how to critically think through problems to arrive at innovative solutions, understand their own conceptual blocks and capabilities, creative group dynamics and how to encourage innovative thinking, says Chetty.

She has an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, an Honours degree in Biochemistry, both from University of Natal, as well as a Masters of Business Administration from NMMU.

Chetty previously worked for the Technology Innovation Agency and currently works with several research groups at NMMU to commercialise university innovations.

“It is by changing the way that we think that we are able to influence the creativity in others and bring out the best of employees and partners. This workshop will look at innovation, creativity and developing a culture of innovation within a group” says Chetty.

To book a space call Mara Jacobs on 041 5023700 at Propella Futuremakers Hub before Tuesday, May 3.
