Framesby Hoerskool in Port Elizabeth have moved to bolster their hockey and netball resources with the appointment of two high-profile coaches to their management staff for 2020.

Former South African player Lana Krige will take on a mentoring role in the netball set-up, while experienced coach Jordan Drury will become the school’s director of hockey.
Framesby head of sport Christo Scriven said they were excited about the acquisition of such highly-rated coaches, who would add much value to their existing structures in two of the school’s major sports.
“Jordan will be our first director of hockey at Framesby from January 1,” he said.
“Having developed an astroturf on the campus for the first time, we decided we needed someone on a full-time basis to run the whole ‘hockey show’.
“On the netball front, I am sure many people will know Lana and we are looking forward to her part-time role in the coaching and mentoring areas.”
After representing the national U21 side in the early 1990s, Krige played for South Africa from 1995 to 2004 and, as a teacher, has always been involved in the coaching side of the sport.
She was the Proteas assistant coach in 2012 and 2013 and the national Fast5 coach in the same period.
More recently, Krige has been closely involved with the SPAR Madibaz netball team, who compete in the annual Varsity Netball tournament, one of the most important competitions in the national milieu.
She has turned them into a serious force in Varsity Netball and her knowledge of the game and experience in coaching will be a major boost for the Framesby players.
Krige said she was looking forward to assisting the school, with whom she had an association early in her career.
“They have a really good sporting culture at the school, with strong backing from the parents, and I am excited about helping them to improve across the board,” she said.
“There is a major schools competition at Waterkloof in Pretoria in March and we will be focusing on that because it’s a big chance for the players to get some exposure.”

Drury’s appointment will see him attempt to turn Framesby into a strong force in schools hockey as they strive to make the most of their new astro.
Having been involved with a number of schools in various sporting roles during his career, he has been coaching in a private capacity for the past seven years. In the last two years he ran the Drury Academy of Excellence where he coached children from eight to 18 in one-on-one and group sessions.
Looking ahead to next year, he said he was thrilled to have landed what he called “my dream job”.
“I’ve had a passion for hockey since a young age and have been coaching for 13 years, so this is something I have always wanted to do and a great opportunity for me,” Drury said.
He added that the school were looking to lift their hockey to a new level.
“We want to put Framesby hockey on the on the map because it’s not quite where it needs to be compared to the other sporting codes,” he said.
“I will be in charge of a number of teams and overseeing the sport in general, but obviously I will have other coaches assisting me, from whom I am sure I will learn plenty.
“We are aiming to try to build Framesby as a hockey family, to get a nice culture going and to drive the sport in the direction we want it to go.”
Drury said they were relishing the chance of hosting the Port Elizabeth leg of the SPAR Eastern Cape Schoolgirls Challenge next year.
“This will be a chance to showcase what Framesby hockey can offer and we want to make it a day to remember.”
