7 October 2014 By Alan Straton

Volkswagen Top Employer 2014
Richard Kasika (VWSA Human Resources), Lazola Ndlazilwana (NUMSA), Anthony Hunneyball (VWSA Human Resources) and Chrystal Christian (VWSA Training Academy) accepting the award on behalf of VWSA with David Plink, CEO of the Top Employers Institute.

For the fourth consecutive year, Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) has been certified by the Top Employer Institute as a Top Employer in South Africa.

VWSA was one of 85 organisations that participated in the 2014/2015 assessment of Human Resources policies and practices of the leading South African employers.  This year, the survey focussed on measurement in the areas of Talent Strategy, Work Force Planning, Learning and Development, Performance Management, Compensation and Benefits, Career and Succession Management, Leadership Development and Organisational Culture.

The Top Employers Institute is an international group that certifies employers who provide excellent conditions for their people, develop talent throughout the organisation and continually strive to improve their HR practices.  The award itself comes after the culmination of intense research, with findings independently audited by Grant Thornton.

“Optimal employee conditions ensure that people can develop themselves personally and professionally. Our comprehensive research concluded that VWSA provides an outstanding employment environment and offers a wide range of creative initiatives, from secondary benefits and working conditions, to performance-management programmes that are well thought out and truly aligned with the culture of their company,” explained Samantha Crous, Regional Director for the Top Employers InstituteSouth Africa.

Percy Smith, HR Director at Volkswagen Group South Africa said “VWSA is honoured to be awarded with the certification.  We place great emphasis on providing our employees with the best working conditions, learning and development opportunities and a range of benefits to create a high-performance and winning culture.

“VWSA is a process and results-driven organisation where people take on extraordinary challenges and succeed. Our successes are due to our people, who excel at their work, treat each other with respect and work together as one team to achieve the common goal of building and selling our great range of products,” commented Managing Director of VWSA, David Powels.

“To be certified as a Top Employer in South Africa for the fourth consecutive year, is confirmation of the company’s continued efforts to provide our employees with the best employment conditions which foster a fast-paced, high performance environment,” concluded Powels.
