The upcoming holiday season normally brings a deluge of visitors to our fair town. Last Christmas had us in a state of slight panic as we watched our ‘Kaapse Mense’ go through water at a rapid rate. Naturally we tried to suggest water saving measures which they countered with showering together but the thought of that with the foreign famiglia is an absolute anathema to my faded catholicism.
Those of you with highly undeveloped sensibilities bordering on the practices of the Deep South and certain parts of a spanner valley nearby will then greet the news that our dams are quite full with dismay.
Major Storage Dams supplying the Metro – levels as at 21 November 2011:
- Kouga: 97,0% – 122 185 Ml
- Churchill: 95,0% – 33 471
- Impofu: 98,8% – 104 490
- Loerie: 79,4% – 2 403
- Groendal: 96,5% – 11 230
- Average all: 97,2% – 273 779 Ml – of total combined capacity.
The average daily consumption for November to date is 249 Ml.
And, when your visiting family on a holiday at the beach become painful, tell them to browse this list of Port Elizabeth Guest Houses – maybe they will take the hint and bugger off.
