Flood Images

21 October 2012 By Alan Straton

On Sunday I took a drive along the Swartkops River to see what misery the bountiful rain may have wrought and I am sorry to say that all the usual suspects were hit once again – The rowing sheds and Redhouse Yacht Club, Sumcay, Groendaal, Missionvale, Soweto on Sea.

Have you been through Missionvale recently? The number of ‘new’ shacks is astounding, it looks like the cemetry has been abandoned and it certainly makes one wonder how the city can cope with this burgeoning poor population – very sad!

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
